This thing actually works. I put it in our RV. Now, everyone hovers around our coffee pot so they can call home etc.
At least Amazon has a wonderful return policy. I plugged the unit in, and not only did I regain service, but the phone showed 2-1/2 bars. However I read the other reviews here, and they led me to believe that I should give it a try. When I first read about this product, I was more than a little skeptical. This could be fixed with a second set of antennas.2) If the unit is moved to a different vehicle, the power-on with no antennas routine must be performed again.I had planned to swap the unit back and forth between two vehicles. I then sat in my vehicle's front seat, and lost cell service again.
There is no reliable service where I live.
I installed it per the included instructions with no problems, and tried it out.
I made a couple of calls, and reception was quite clear.Pros: 1) It really works.2) Easy to install if you follow the directions.
I had tried amplifier products before that were supposed to improve TV or radio or scanner reception, with little success.
Amazing.
My SUV was sitting in the carport.
My cell phone, as I walked around the carport, would sometimes connect and sometimes disconnect.
(Not made clear in the instructions is the fact that the power-on with antennas disconnected for 30 seconds only has to be done the FIRST time the unit is powered after installation).3) All cables are long enough to allow routing in inconspicuous places.Cons:1) If the cables are tucked away, moving the unit to another vehicle is time consuming.
If you do not plan to do this, then consider my rating to be five stars.
Works fine with our phones, really helps with fringe areas, but of course, when there is no signal at all, it's not going to help.The range from the inside antenna is quite limited, you almost have to hold it next to the phone, but still, it is a big help when in marginal areas.
This antenna/booster works as it is described to. Ok - I don't write many reviews but this product has made my driving more enjoyable. With the booster installed - magnetic antenna on the center edge of the trunk near the window and the inside receptor under the carpet in the back seat (a minimal effort on my part), and there is only one spot where the call. I don't have the embarassment of loosing a call that I made because I was mobile. It generally improves the signal everywhere I drive in the area. may.
I use a bluetooth headset on my phone is usually stuffed in the cubby up front and connected to a charger (or not) and the signal is usually two bars higher than without. I make several calls in the car on the way home from work and without the booster I would loose calls in about 6-7 places on the journey home. Keep the external antenna atleast 15 inches from people (just like you shouldn't hold a cell phone to your head for extended periods) and it is pheonominal. drop. What a difference. You can actually see the bars changes, and it is not an imperceptable difference where it matters - the call.
AT&T (formerly Cingular) in the 1900 MHz band is where I use the device.
I live on the fringe of the cell tower service area. I have numerous dropped calls in my home when I just use my cell phone, but with this device (Yes, I know it's made for an automobile). operating in my home, via a 12 volt DC power supply, antenna in a window and sitting near the signal pick-up device my phone goes from none or 1 bar signal strength to 2 to 3 bars of signal strength. The calls are crystal clear, too, per comments from my family and friends.I would, and have, recommended this device to my family and friends.
